Mountaineering Tips

Packing Tips

When loading a pack the center of gravity should be as close to the body near shoulder height as possible. Generally, the sleeping bag, or some other bulky but lightweight item, goes in the bottom compartment. Heavy items are packed next, close to the back.

To properly fit a pack, first loosen all the straps. After shouldering the pack, position the middle of the hip belt along the line of the hipbone and tighten the belt. Next, tighten the shoulder straps enough to hold the pack in position without moving the hip belt. Then, snug down the top stabilizer straps to pull the pack closer into the back. Finally tighten the waist bet stabilizer straps to control
lateral movement.

Waterproofing Tips

The backpack provides a certain level of waterproofing. But there are times that it requires an extra level of protection. One way of doing this is to put your stuff in a zip lock and placing them on a double or triple layer of large garbage bag. With this, you can protect your delicate items from water even when the pack is completely submerged. It also help organize your things.
